1992,13th April, Nelson Mandela separated from his second wife,Winnie.Since being freed from prison in 1990, Mandela testified, he had felt nothing but "loneliness" living with Mrs. Mandela, who once was hailed as the "Mother of the Nation."Their marriage had dissolved, he said, and he became convinced of her infidelity after seeing love letters from Mrs. Mandela to her personal assistant, Dali Mpofu.
I think this was a big day in Mandela's life because Winnie was with him for such along period of time and most people probably thought they would grow old together. It was probably very sad for Mandela but I think it was better for him, if they weren't happy together anymore than there is no point in staying together.
In 1991, on the 2-6 of July, Nelson Mandela was elected president of the ANC at his 48th national conference in Durban. After a triumphant global tour Nelson Mandela was unanimously elected as president of the African National Congress (ANC) at the party's national conference held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on 5 July 1991. Mandela succeeded the ailing Oliver Tambo, who was elected national chairperson.
Walter Sisulu was elected as the deputy president. Other people elected to the first five top positions were Cyril Ramaphosa as ANC Secretary-General, with Jacob Zuma becoming his deputy. Thomas Nkobi retained his post as Treasurer General.
I think this was a very iconic date in Mandela's life because he worked for it his entire life and he finally won this battle. He didn't exactly just work to be president his whole life but he worked for freedom for blacks and whites, not just whites. After being in prison for 27 years, I find it amazing how he got to be president because he really did earn it.

When Mandiba was released from prison.

An iconic date in Mandiba's life.

On 2 February, NP president, FW de Klerk announced the unconditional release of Mandela. On the 11th of February, Nelson Mandela was released from prison. On this day, Nelson Mandela was released unconditionally from prison after 27 years. Accompanied by his wife Winnie, Mandela left the Victor Verster prison (renamed Drakenstein Correctional Centre) on the outskirts of Paarl and was driven 60 km to Cape Town by African National Congress's (ANC) Rose Sonto along a route lined by thousands of supporters.

I think this must of been the best day of Mandela's life because he had been in prison so long. It must of been wonderful seeing his wife again and walking with her and seeing all of the supporters cheering for him. I think he was really happy to see his family again and to be free. This was definitely an iconic date in his life.

Iconic dates in Mandela's life.

In 1964, on the 12th of June, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment on Robbin Island.Back in 1964, Mandela was one of eight men accused of conspiracy and sabotage in the so-called Rivonia Trial, named after a suburb of Johannesburg where African National Congress leaders had hidden out in a farmhouse.
I think it must of been incredibly scary for Nelson Mandela knowing that he would have to spend the rest of his life on Robbin Island. He must of been extremely sad that he wouldn't be able to be a father to his kids or be with his wife. His family, I think, was very sad that they would hardly ever see him and they were probably sad just knowing that somebody that they love will be spending the rest of their life locked behind bars.It was a very iconic date in Nelson Mandela's life.
